Provenance

The story of how Schindler's List came to be: .
Green days

Michael McGrorty writes about Howard Pyle and Robin Hood. I could picture the illustrations has was talking about--my copy was one of those "keepsake" books that I got as a series of Christmas presents from aunts and uncles that included Robin Hood, Ivanhoe, and a a fair amount of Arthuriana--not to mention later fantasy stuff like Faeries, Gnomes, and Giants. I'm certain that this is why Christmas always makes me think I'm in ancient Britain. Two or three years ago, on Christmas day, I remember looking through a wavy window at the Norman-inspired tower of the church across the street as snow drifted down through the trees and thinking this is just right.
