As seen on TV

Ah, Halloween. Earlier this evening I was watching The Addams Family while waiting for trick or treaters... which reminded me of 6th grade. Halloween, 1977 was the last time I went trick-or-treating, and, already thinking ahead to the day I would be a library cataloger, I spent the next several days after school arranging my candy in categories in order of preference while watching endless reruns of The Little Rascals, The Partridge Family, The Addams Family, and Happy Days. Every day I would eat the most desirable candy first while watching old TV, and every few commercial breaks I'd get to see the ads for K-Tel albums. That year I got "Music Machine" for Christmas, and just thinking about it makes me start humming "I Just Want to Be Your Everything." So go visit, find your favorite, leave a comment if you find it.

Thanks to James Lileks for pointing this one out.

Vacation planning

Planning a trip to Cooperstown, I found
Leather Stalking Books. First editions aren't really my interest, but who knows?

Yes, baseball is the thing in Cooperstown, but possibly of more relevance to this web site is its significance to a minor little American writer named James Fenimore Cooper. And anyone who ever played Authors (yeah, like I'm the only one. Sure.) should be able to reel off at least four of his 32 titles.

Well worth the download time

If you like old advertising art, anyway: EphemeraNow.com

Where, oh where, are you tonight?

Please come back, RETRO. We miss Malvina and Rusty and the gang, not to mention the Postcard Depot. It's been years now.

I've got spurs (pt. 2)...

If I were to get those boots I blogged last week, I could also be a pinup model, apparently.

Actually, this is a very comprehensive history of the pinups with profiles of pinup artists. It's just that most of the examples seem to involve western wear.

On my honor, I will try...

An interesting article about the differences between today's Brownie uniforms and yesteryear's: A Mother in Touch With Her Inner Elf.

I wouldn't miss the beanie, but the sock flashes are another story.

I think what I found most interesting about this is that vintage uniforms are still considered to be official uniforms. The thing is, I can almost guarantee that while mothers would find it lots of fun to dress their poor Brownies up in vintage GS gear, the girls would probably be mortified.
